Books you can talk to
Describe the transaction. Helm proposes a balanced entry and shows you both sides. You approve it, and the books update.
One ledger, and every report reads from it
Helm keeps double-entry journals and a chart of accounts. A statement is pulled from those journals, never from a second set of numbers.
You can add an account or a cost center by asking for it. A custom code is allocated above the built-in codes, so a collision is impossible.
A cost center is validated. A name with a typo refuses the posting instead of guessing which department you meant.
A photographed receipt becomes an entry
Send the photograph. Helm reads the vendor, the date, the total and the printed VAT.
A field Helm cannot read is left empty and named, so nobody approves an invented number.
You approve a balanced entry, and the receipt file stays attached to it.
The entries that must not be forgotten post themselves
Depreciation runs straight line from the month after the purchase. A vehicle, a computer, furniture, a building and land each carry their own default life.
A prepaid cost amortizes monthly from the day it was paid.
The last month absorbs the rounding, so the posted total equals the scheduled total exactly.
VAT, the bank feed and what you are owed
Helm splits input VAT at 15% on an entry that carries it, and reports the VAT position for the period.
A bank line arrives with a suggestion, and a person posts it or rejects it. Helm learns the rule you confirmed.
The board shows what you owe and what you are owed, with the movement against the last real period beside it.
Answers
What is the VAT rate Helm uses?
The standard rate of 15%, from the statutory register. Whether an item is zero-rated, exempt or standard is a judgement, so Helm flags it rather than assuming it.
Can I export the books?
Yes. One request exports the whole workspace as JSON, and the bucket keeps a previous version of every object.
Does the bank feed refresh itself?
No. A refresh is a manual action, on purpose. Helm does not run a background scheduler against your bank.
